Certain target species such as black drum, redfish, speckled sea trout, sheepshead, and flounder are abundant all year. Matagorda Bay is surrounded by a unique saltwater fishery that provides numerous options for any angler most within a short ride on your guide’s poling skiff. This is the perfect habitat for our Texas redfish and plentiful black drum. There is no shortage of potholes, cuts and deep water for those fish to retreat to as well. There are numerous shallow grass flats that are perfect for stalking redfish. Definitely a favorite of ours during the Early Spring and Winter months. And if you have a ton of bait near some shell, those trout won’t be too far behind. Combine those, with crystal clear water, and you will attract a ton of baitfish. This bay is comprised mainly of shell reefs. East Matagorda Bay can be, arguably, some of the best speckled trout (sea trout, specs) fishing Texas has to offer. The Matagorda Bay system is comprised of two bays, the East and West Matagorda Bays. Fishing, both commercial and recreational, are THE industry in this small coastal town for good reason. With a population nearer to 500 full time residents, Matagorda truly is a small fishing village. Matagorda, Texas is a small community located along the mouth of the Colorado River on the Texas Coast.
